Learning from Micro-Internships

In today’s fast paced environment, It’s essential for students to develop soft skills such as communication, critical thinking and leadership. These skills help them progress through life, overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Internships provide such opportunities to develop skills by giving exposure to the professional lifestyle. It allows students to observe, adapt, and learn from real workplace situations. Through micro short industry projects, students can gain a greater understanding of the economy and the challenges faced within the sector. Moreover, they also develop business and entrepreneurial skills, which prepares them for future roles. Such opportunities have the ability to shape a student’s mindset, enlist confidence and lifelong knowledge.

Micro internships are those internships which typically last around a few days to a few weeks. Despite having short durations, they provide real world experiences and practical learning. They are known to be highly impactful for students in skill building.

At Vista International School, 12th grade commerce students were given the opportunity to do an internship at David J. Financial Services; it allowed students to observe, adapt, and learn from real workplace situations. Furthermore, the internship gave the interns the opportunity to discern the career choices available to them as commerce students. This exposure connected the classroom lessons to real-life applications. This internship encouraged skill building beyond just technical knowledge. Students were able to develop skills such as time management, teamwork, leadership under real world experiences.

In addition, students were given the opportunity to be surrounded by professionals helping them to network, seek mentorship and understand responsibility & discipline. Such internships help in refining their skills and prepare them for the professional world.

Such micro internships highlight the importance of skill enhancement, practical learning and early real-world exposure. They not only prepare students for higher education and professional life. By students participating in these internships they learn valuable and essential skills navigating students through challenges and thrive in the competitive world.
